With a one-third cut coming to the MOX project, from $335 million to $220 million, big changes are afoot. MOX workers deserve ample notification about layoffs – which is likely not to happen as project changes begin on October 1, 2018 – a good severance package, help with finding new work and assistance in relocation.
It appears that DOE is looking at the $220 million to be for project closure, which will be allowed if the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals allows termination to go forward. The September 27 hearing on that matter could result in rapid termination or a massive down-sizing in the project if official termination is not allowed at this time.
