Based on observation by members of SRS Watch on December 5, 29019, it looks like no covers have been put over the waste disposal trenches at the Barnwell low-level nuclear waste dump, contrary to a SC Supreme Court ruling. the dump used to be open to nation-wide generators but since 2008 has only received waste from the Atlantic Compact states – New Jersey, Connecticut and South Carolina: https://www.atlanticcompact.org/
When will SC Department of Health & Environmental Control (DHEC), Energy Solutions, which operates the dump, comply with the court ruling to keep rainwater out of the leaking trenches? This chronic non-compliance appears to be a violation of the court’s ruling and an abuse of the environment.
