As the Democrats have taken over the House Armed Services Committee, a discussion will begin in earnest about nuclear weapons policy and the wisdom of spending $1 trillion on weapons modernization over the next 30 years. That discussion will include the vague idea floated for a new plutonium “pit” factory at SRS, in the abandoned MOX building. Some are aiming to rushing to convert that facility without meeting environmental requirements. Meanwhile, Los Alamos National Lab in New Mexico struts its stuff on nuclear weapons development.
