Was the confused orange candidate raising the specter of South Carolina being hit by a massive nuclear weapon – from whom? – due to the DOE’s Savannah River Site being located here? Or was it for political purposes of some sort?
SRS already processes all tritium gas that goes into all US nuclear weapons & could 10+ years from now be producing plutonium pits for nuclear nuclear weapons. But why didn’t he mention the state for the first production of pits – New Mexico (Los Alamos National Lab) or where all US nuclear weapons are assembled (Pantex in TX) – as being a target of this mysterious attack?
Is his tactic to scare the crowd in the state about to hold a Republican primary, for political purposes?
The South Carolina and national media have little clue about SRS or DOE facilities (and that it’s the nuclear weapons arm of DOD) so I don’t expect follow-up questions about why South Carolina was mentioned. This could be an opportunity to raise DOE issues but I’m not sure how to do that with a media that is pretty much totally ignorant and disengaged about DOE’s role in US planning for nuclear war.
