At the Oct. 15 meeting of the Nuclear Advisory Council, a nuclear industry cheer-leading group of marginal value to the state, the attorney representing the State of SC admitted that they have lost in their effort to stop the Fourth Circuit Court of appeals from lifting the “stay” preventing MOX termination. He then admitted that the court would rule against them in their final ruling. There were some throw-away words about appealing to the US Supreme Court. So, the take-away is that AG thinks the ballgame is over.
The NAC, which has also blindly backed MOX despite many red flags and warnings, swallowed hard and the head of the body also admitted that the bungled project had reached the end of the road. (But chairman Rick Lee couldn’t let go and ran through a litany and what ifs and is still clinging the the failed project as it sinks. In the public comment period, SRS Watch urged the NAC, for the umpteenth time, to focus on protecting MOX workers and demanding necessary investigations into fraud, waste, abuse & mismanagement (investigations being blocked by Senator Graham). As usual our sound advice will be ignored. If they had only listened over all these years the MOX project may have turned out differently. So, yes, blame for the MOX failure belongs at the feel of the Nuclear Advisory Council.
Before the meeting, Governor Henry McMaster spoke to a group South Carolina State students and could not say with any certainty if a Hail-Mary, last-ditch meeting between him and Senator Graham and President Trump will happen on Thursday, October 18. Gov McMaster said he was “anticipating” a meeting with Trump and that it was “temporarily scheduled” for Thursday. Nothing definitive in those words or in his voice. Sad, but McMaster sounded very ill-informed on MOX and it’s clear he’s been swallowing the fake news koolaid of Senator MOX.
