NNSA’s Review of MOX Plant “Refurbishment” for Pit Production another Indicator that MOX is in Trouble and Facing Eventual Termination
Columbia, SC – A leaked 1-page document confirms that the U.S. Department of Energy is looking at use of the plutonium fuel (MOX) plant at the Savannah River Site for production of plutonium “pits” for nuclear weapons.
Such a mission would greatly expand the nuclear weapons focus at SRS, which is now constrained to the processing and packaging of tritium gas for use in all US nuclear weapons.
