Lawyer for SRS Watch demands response from DOE to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for documents on “repurposing” the shuttered plutonium fuel (MOX) plant into a Plutonium Bomb Plant (PBP). The FOIA request by SRS Watch has languished for 10 months, in violation of requirements of FOIA. DOE’s National Nuclear Security Administration has until December 9, 2019 to state when the documents will be provided or face possible legal action.
The matter of whether the unneeded Plutonium Bomb Plant, which would make plutonium pits for a single new nuclear warhead, is of growing concern to the public and Congress and the documents must be released, according to SRS Watch. The new warhead – designated “W87-1-like” by the department of Defense, could help trigger a new nuclear arms race with Russia. SRS Watch rejects such Cold War madness deja vu, which would only benefit DOE and DOD contractor$.

NNSA has acknowledged the FOIA request but has chosen not to give a date when documents will be provided, in violation of FOIA.
