Augusta Canal and Mill Village Trailhead in Augusta, GA
March 28, 2026 | PADDLE 9AM-1PM | BOOGIE 1-5PM
In 1989, the only U.S. plutonium pit factory, Rocky Flats,
near Denver, CO, was raided by the FBI and permanently shut down
after contaminating the countryside with radioactive plutonium.
Now the U.S. proposes to build Rocky Flats at SRS. We have fought
proposed plutonium pit factories at SRS four times in the past 30 years and
won! We can Stop The Bomb NOW by stopping plutonium pits at SRS.
PADDLE AND BOOGIE TO STOP THE BOMB is a day of fun and music,
education, and preparation to make our voices heard in opposition
to new nuclear weapons manufacturing at the Savannah River Site.
PADDLE Join us on the Augusta Canal for an enjoyable 5.5-mile paddle
starting from the head gate at Savannah Rapids Park in Martinez. Bring
your own kayak or rent one from Savannah Rapids Kayak Rental. Mention the
Paddle and Boogie for a discounted rental. Free shuttle back to the starting
point if you rent from them or $10 for your own boat. All paddlers must register
and sign a waiver before embarking on the paddle.
BOOGIE The paddlers will disembark at Mill Village Trailhead on the
Augusta Canal (109 Eve St.) and join the gathering for an afternoon of live
solar-powered music headlined by Natti Love Joys, an open mike, and fun
educational activities. Get informed about the the Plutonium Pit Production
Facility proposed for Savannah River Site and upcoming public hearings
and comment period expected in May/June.
STOP THE BOMB Every nuclear weapon contains a plutonium pit as
its explosive core, and the U.S. has not mass produced them for almost four
decades. The U.N. Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons outlaws the
possession, manufacture, and use of nuclear weapons and is ratified by more
than half of the nations of Planet Earth. The U.S. is currently squandering
$100,000 per minute on nuclear weapons, more than all other nations on
Earth combined. The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requires an
Environmental Impact Statement to be published and public comments to be
solicited for the public record. We are being given no less than an historic
national referendum on nuclear weapons!
We don’t need a New Nuclear Arms Race costing
trillions of dollars to destroy everything we hold dear!
Banners, signs, and other artwork welcome!
Let’s celebrate and activate to protect the Savannah River watershed
and future generations!
Musicians, dancers, hikers, bikers, poets, dreamers and
kite flyers, come one, come all, bring your family and friends!
