SRS Watch has submitted comments in response to the DOE Office of Nuclear Energy’s draft Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed and unjustified “Versatile Test Reactor” (VTR) which is facing big funding challenges in Congress.
SRS Watch supports the “No Action Alternative” – don’t pursue the reactor at the Idaho National Lab and has requested the EIS process be halted and that no “Record of Decision” be issued. SRS Watch is particularly concerned about the option to process 34 metric tons of plutonium at SRS into VTR fuel, posing more plutonium risks to South Carolina, which is unacceptable.
