Savannah River Site Watch reached out to attendees at a clean energy festival (https://getoffthegridfest.com/) in Spartanburg, South Carolina on August 19, 2023, to enlist opposition to plans by the Department of Energy & Department of Defense (of the Biden Administration) to keep the U.S. on a footing for full-scale nuclear war.
Almost uniformly, people are shocked to learn of plans for the proposed SRS Plutonium Bomb Plant to make pits for new nuclear weapons, at a cost of tens of billions of dollars (that go to private contractors) over the coming decades. We handed out literature informing people of the past role of the Savannah River Site and encourage letters to Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC) and against planning for nuclear war.
Adjacent tables were for the South Carolina Chapter of the Sierra Club & Nuclear Watch South, both also opposed to the new bomb factory at SRS.
