An SRS official admitted on August 8 at and SRS Citizens Advisory Board committee meeting that processing continues only for plutonium solutions in H-Canyon. But they can’t yet bring themselves to admit there are no more plutonium shipments from storage in the K-Area to HB-Line for processing. Don’t worry they will have to admit this sooner or later even if the obfuscation continues for now.
Recall what we said on July 21 – SRS Watch news release linked here – this still stands:
2017 Nuclear Materials Management Plan for DOE’s Savannah River Site Reveals Plutonium Oxide Production in HB-Line is Halting – Setback for MOX as Main Source of Plutonium “Feedstock” Eliminated
Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board: Nuclear Material Shipment to H-Canyon and HB-Line Halted
SRS/DOE: Please correct us if shipments from K-Area to HB-Line are continuing. OK?!
BTW – the CAB’s Nuclear Material committee voted on August 8 by a 9 to 1 vote on sending a recommendation to the full CAB for its September meeting against bringing German graphite spent fuel to SRS for processing and dumping. DOE has been pushing this dead proposal for 3 years and won’t quite let go as they and the contractor, Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, smell a lot of money from Germany to keep H-Canyon operating. DOE’s National Nuclear Security Administration said in 2013 there was no proliferation risk of the material in Germany – memo linked here – and that position has not changed.
