It is likely related to the contamination with fission products at the Portsmouth enrichment plant, which could have been caused by re-enrichment of contaminated uranium (reprocessed uranium or RepU), a by-product of reprocessing, from the Savannah River Plant and other locations.
The last we saw of Assistant Secretary White was when she was getting on the elevator to go to the secretary’s office, pior to a 10: 00 a.m. meeting with the Alliance for Nuclear Accountability (ANA) – of which SRS Watch is a member – on May 22, 2019. She never showed up for the meeting.

Subject: Key Personnel Announcements
In our ongoing effort to communicate senior leadership developments, we would like to inform Department of Energy (DOE) employees of the following key personnel announcements:
First, we want to officially welcome and congratulate Dr. William Bookless on his confirmation as Principal Deputy Administrator for the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and Dr. Christopher Fall on his confirmation as the Director of the Office of Science. The NNSA and Science missions are vital to our nation’s security and prosperity. The confirmations of Dr. Bookless and Dr. Fall are very welcome, and now that they are both officially sworn in, we look forward to their contributions to the Department’s overall mission.
As we welcome two people into new positions this is also an opportunity to thank one for her service and wish her well. Today, Anne Marie White submitted her resignation as the Assistant Secretary for Environmental Management (EM) to be effective June 14, 2019.
Since her confirmation in March 2018, Anne has shown a true passion for EM’s mission of cleaning up the Nation’s environmental legacy resulting from decades of nuclear weapons research and production. Anne, among other efforts, led the charge for the reexamination of how DOE defines High Level Waste, an effort that may create opportunities for DOE to accelerate cleanup.
During Anne’s tenure, EM has celebrated many accomplishments, including completing closure of the 90-acre D-Area Ash Project in Savannah River (SC), overseeing the first-ever transfer of land back to the local Portsmouth (OH) community, and completing the safe demolition of the vitrification facility at West Valley (NY). Anne’s service to the Department of Energy and to this Nation are greatly appreciated. Please join us in wishing her the best in her future endeavors.
William “Ike” White will serve as senior advisor to Under Secretary Dabbar overseeing the Office of Environmental Management going forward. Ike has served in a variety of senior leadership capacities within DOE’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) including the Deputy Associate Administrator for Safety and Health, and most recently, as NNSA’s Associate Principal Deputy Administrator.
Todd Shrader, manager of EM’s Carlsbad Field Office will become the EM Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, replacing Mark Gilbertson, who will assume the role of Director of the Department’s National Laboratory Operations Board.
Finally, a continued thanks to all of you who continue to make the Department of Energy an exciting place to work.
Secretary Rick Perry and Deputy Secretary Dan Brouillette
