Officially, the cost of the proposed SRS Plutonium Bomb Plant doubled last week in DOE’s nuclear weapons budget request for Fiscal Year 2022, from $4.6 billion to a whopping $11 billion. That cost is expected to rise when “Critical Decsion-1” is released in the coming weeks. But is the actual cost $18 billion???? Planning for pit production for new nuclear weapons, as part of planning for full-scale nuclear war, is costly but, hey, contractors need our cash, don’t they?
