May 9, 2018 alert: DOE’s 2nd COUNTDOWN relevant to SRS is about to begin – delivery to Congress of the costs analysis of MOX vs. “dilute & dispose” for disposition of surplus weapons plutonium.
Be alert to the cost report being sent to Congress, which will set the stage for termination by Secretary of Energy Rick Perry of the MOX boondoggle. Congress has pushed politicians who have served the interest of MOX contractors aside and given all authority to terminate MOX to Secretary Perry, who has been vocal in congressional testimony about MOX cost problems.
We are hearing that MOX workers remain unhappy are are leaving the sinking project in droves, in part due to chronically poor management and no overtime. The rework problems may well be insurmountable and we are not aware of any plan by McDermott/CB&I/AREVA/Oranao to get the project on track. We think that the contractors and workers know that the decision to terminate looms. Even Senator MOX (Lindsey Graham) and Mini-MOX (Rep. Joe Wilson) appear to have given up in their floundering efforts to save their favorite taxpayer-funded boondoggle.
